To say my fortunes and feelings for this year have been mixed, would be an understatement.

I tend not to post the super specifically personal stuff on social media. But I've made it no secret that the last few months have been really difficult.

At the same time, there's a reason why I use social media for the good stuff - so I can remember it through the fog of bad that tends to often sit at the top of my memory.

And so it's nice to look back at some of the better things which have happened in 2022.

Also, after difficult, traumatic and horrible experiences, I tend to be set on a path of just doing stuff which would have scared or limited me before. Because screw it.

So... I'm working on something... scary and different for 2023. Working on it is already changing my life, in strange ways. It's kinda terrifying and difficult and intense. But it's also something I've been wanting to do for years. And if not now, then when? 👀

In the meantime - Happy New Year, good people. Whether 2022 has been nice to you or not, I hope 2023 is far better and kinder.

Interesting and (nicely) surprised to discover that Frankfurt train station has two bookshops that host a decent and sizable comic book section in them. Not pictured here, but it wasn't just Marvel and DC books either - there were traditional publisher comics, biographical comics, and a range of non-superhero books, alongside the classic Disney characters, and European classics like Asterix.

Why is this a surprise?

Because most public transport bookshops these days tend to have - at best - a single rack of comics, often just with the most popular characters associated with the bigger MCU movies. Which makes sense from a sales point of view. Comics are a narrow medium with a comparatively small audience, so shelf space has to be efficiently used.

But to see this in a mainstream shop, twice, was heartening. Given the trials of the medium right now (some publishers going down/bust, creators not being paid etc), anything which isn't doom makes a nice, if fleeting, change.

Even in isolation.

I was recently lamenting with @kid_desimo that I kinda miss the days where I would head out with my Dad to the newsagents, and stumble across a cool £2.99 budget game for my Amstrad CPC 464 (on tape!), buy it and head home, totally unaware of the experience I was going to get after waiting 10 minutes for it to load.

And then there are days when I'm not very well, and can just boot up titles like Elden Ring within seconds on my 2nd gen @ayaneoofficial, to play while lying down.

I'm glad to have experienced both things 😅

Writing is difficult. Writing is especially diff

Writing is difficult.

Writing is especially difficult when you're doing it with a full time job and life is happening around you. Even if you enjoy it - and I truly do - it comes with a cost. There are lots of you reading this, bravely pursuing your own passions outside of your day-to-day, who know exactly what this means.

Which is to say, I never meant for there to be an eight year gap between the second and third chapters (seasons) of Magic of Myths. Sure, Sergio (my mega talented co-creator artist) and I have done several short stories in the Magic of Myths universe during those years, maintaining the fanbase and growing the universe, but eight years is still a long time. For some series, it's death.

Life, simply got in the way.

But we refused to let this one go. Magic of Myths is a personal endeavor which means a lot to us. And so, today, the first print run of book/season three finally arrived on my doorstep, to massive relief.

With everything that has happened this year - some good, far too much bad - Magic of Myths: Season 3 represents a lot of things.

But most of all, it represents persistence... and hope.

And that means everything.
